The LPO Occitanie supports ecotourism in tourist accommodation and encourages people to discover nature from their own backyard. At Le Rêve we’re keen to offer tools to raise awareness of the beauty of nature! So it was quite natural that the LPO from the Lot asked us to take part in the ‘Nid Douillets et Biodiversité’ programme, a national project supported by the Office Français de la Biodiversité and ADEME. The aim is to increase nature education among our visitors, whether they are holidaymakers, customers of the Rest-Ô-Rêve restaurant or just passing through.
At the beginning of December, Louise, nature educator at the LPO from the Lot, welcomed the children from the day-care centre in our village of Le Vigan en Quercy to a workshop on birds. We learned how to tell when an animal is a bird: if it has feathers! The ostrich is a bird, but the bat is not.
Or how some birds change their diet in winter. Insectivores see the number of prey greatly reduced when temperatures are low, so they switch to a diet based more on seeds.
The children then made ‘fat balls’ to help the birds in their search for food.
A new workshop is planned for the spring. The target date is 21 May 2025 (subject to confirmation).
